Gopher on the Ninth Acrylic on Panel 12”x16” by John Seerey-Lester

The gopher tortoise has become a
prominent resident of Useppa. So
entrenched in Island society, one
tortoise even had it’s own mailbox,
“Mr. T”. The artist takes you back to
when the Island was more or less a
nine-hole golf course. Seerey-Lester
imagines a gopher sharing it’s
home with the ninth hole, positioned
where the tennis courts are today,
behind the Club House.
