A hunter in 19th Century British East
Africa used the hindquarters of a cape buffalo as bait to attract
lion.
After spending many hours in the hiding
place watching the bait hanging from a tree, the night suddenly
turned nasty. It started to pour with rain and he was getting
chilled and miserable.
At one point he thought he saw a lion
approach, but then in the bad light and heavy rain he lost sight
of it and the bait.
Gingerly he decided to creep through
the grass to get a closer look; what he found was terror in the
night.
The full story will be told in Volume
II of Seerey-Lesters book Legends of the Hunt
Campfire Tales, due for publication in 2012.
