"Ice Shanty"
Acrylic, 16x20"
Price on request

In the northern states such as Wisconsin, Michigan, and New York, ice shanties are still a common sight during the winter months.

My painting shows a shanty from the early part of the 1900s. At this time ice fishing wasn’t just a sport. For many locals it was a way of putting food on the table, and the fish often became a form of barter for other necessities.

In these early times, wolves would have used the frozen lakes as highways and in some places, still do today.

In Volume II of Seerey-Lester’s book, Legends of the Hunt – Campfire Tales, due out in 2012, the full story about this shanty will be covered.
