The hunters camp is at 7,000 feet
in Montana. The year is 1906. The hunting party has found this
somewhat sheltered location at the edge of a forest. The ground
gradually falls away to a meadow and a lake, in the distance,
the Rocky Mountains. The hunters are about to retire to their
tents on this clear moonlit night having experienced the triumph
and satisfaction of a good day. The
hardship of reaching this location has been forgotten, and now
they are to enjoy that which is known only to those who seek
out such wilderness locations, the pleasure of camping in the
lap of nature.
As the hunters are about to douse the
fire and ready themselves for a much needed sleep, they are unaware
that the idyllic setting may soon be shattered, should the approaching
grizzly decide to join them and seek out the welcoming light.
At the moment, he has paused in his tracks to evaluate the situation.
More than likely he will continue on his nightly march and the
hunters may never know he has been there until they see his tracks
next morning.
