"Rainy Day in Camp"
Acrylic on Panel 11”x14”
SOLD

I am fascinated by the atmosphere which can be created by rain and mist and use it often in my paintings. It can provide mystery and intrigue in an otherwise ordinary scene.
In my painting it is 1919 Montana, and the hunters have returned to camp. It has been a hard exhausting day and the men are ready to sit round a fire and discuss the hunt. As if to emphasize what might have been a disappointing day, the camp becomes shrouded in a fine misty rain and the men retreat to the shelter of their tents to wait it out. The fire, which had only just been made, is now being slowly dowsed by the rain. One of the hunters had the foresight to cover the wood pile with a tarp to save the gathered wood for another day. We know tomorrow will be a better day.
